Prospect 10 Nearest Neighbours Mean Ranks
Averages the 10 nearest neighbours for each prospect within 2 years of age and ranks them according to their NCAA and NBA production. Neighbours are pulled from 2010-2024 NCAA drafted players.
Notes for table above:
The ordering on the left is pulled from the Tankathon big board after the draft lottery. My personal big board prospect ranks will be published in another post.
The nearest neighbours were filtered to within 2 years of each prospect’s age as to limit the comparisons to similarly aged prospects. For example Cooper Flagg and Derik Queen are both NCAA freshman, but Flagg will be 18.5 years at the draft, while Queen will be 20.5 years.
This includes only NCAA prospects, no international prospects.
bpm is the average of the 10 nearest neighbours, not the prospect
Age is the average of the 10 nearest neighbours, not the prospect. Age Diff is the diff in this average and the prospect’s age (ex: Flagg is 18.5 years and 1.5 years younger than the average of the 10 nearest neighbours)
KNN Dist is the average of how close the nearest neighbours are to the prospect (lower number indicates a closer rank). This indicates how relevant the neighbour data is to projecting the prospect’s NBA potential.
The 4 NBA stats that are averaged amongst the 10 neighbours are:
NBA_Start %: what % of games the neighbour started [measure of starter potential]
BPM: catchall measure of overall box score production
WS/Year (Win Shares divided by number of years played since it is a cumulative stat)
VORP/Year (Value Over Replacement Player divided by number of years played since it is a cumulative stat) [measure of rotation player potential]
